First Reading: James 2, 1 - 5 (English):
In this reading, St. James explains that we do not show deep
faith in Jesus Christ if we choose to welcome the rich over the
poor. When we make distinctions, we may become judges with evil
thoughts.
Second Reading: Romans 8:1 - 6 (Lebanese):
In this reading, St. Paul explains that Jesus saved us from
sin and death by taking the body of sins. We are now free because
we belong to the Spirit.
Gospel: John , 3 1 - 8 (English & Lebanese):
In this Gospel reading, Jesus explains that no one can see
the Kingdom of God without being born from the Spirit. If we
are born from the flesh we are flesh.

The Triumph of the Holy Cross
September 14
St. Paul the Apostle spoke of the power of Christ's Cross.
According to tradition, the Empress Helena discovered the Lord's
Cross in Jerusalem on September 14, 320. Five years later , a
great church was built on Mount Calvary by Emperor Constantine
to shelter the relic. Parts of the wood of the Cross were sent
to the major cities of Christendom, where they were shown to
the faithful on this special feast.
We worship you, O Christ, and we praise you, because by your
Cross you have redeemed the world. By this holy tree you gave
your people victory, and put aside the tree of our defeat. |
