First Reading: Galatians 5:16 - 25 (English):
St. Paul explains to us that the desires of the flesh opposed
to those of the Spirit. Those who live by the flesh will not
inherit the Kingdom of God. We crucify the flesh by denying the
body's desires and passions.
Second Reading: Colossians 2:6 - 15 (Lebanese):
In this reading, we see the Holy Spirit strengthening the disciples
after days of fear and anxiety. Those who saw were astonished
by this transformation and others were mocking them thinking
that the disciples were drunk because of the knowledge of different
languages.
Gospel: John, 20: 19 - 25 (English & Lebanese):
In this Gospel reading, Jesus shows the disciples his love for
them. He is leaving, asking God the Father to send the Advocate
to be with them. Jesus' love for the world is obvious because
he did not leave them orphans and alone. He promised them to
be with them and in them always as he is always in the Father.

St. Anthony of Padua, June 13 (1195 - 1231)
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Ferdinand de Bulhoes was
the Son of a Knight at the court of King Alfonso II of Portugal.
He studied as a Youth under the priests of the Lisbon Cathedral,
joined the canons Regular of St. Augustine at their house near
the city when fifteen, and in 1212 was transferred to the priory
at Coimbra because of the disturbing visits of his friends. He
was ordained in 1219. He transferred to the Franciscans in 1221,
taking the name Anthony, went to Morocco to preach to the Moors
but was forced to return because of illness. His contemporaries
called him "Hammer of the Heretics" and "Living
Ark of the Covenant" and he is known as the " Wonder
Worker" for the miracles he wrought. He is the Patron of
the Poor (alms given for his intercession are called St. Anthony's
bread) and oppressed and he is wisely invoked for the return
of lost articles. His depiction in art with the infant Jesus
on his arm is because of an episode in which a visitor reported
this happening.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit of light and love, you are the substantial
love of the Father and of the Son; hear my prayer. Bounteous
bestower of most precious gifts, grant me a strong and living
faith, which makes me accept all revealed truths and shape my
conduct in accord with them. Give me a most confident hope in
all divine promises which prompts me to abandon myself unreservedly
to you and guidance. Infuse into me a love of perfect goodwill,
that makes me accomplish God's will in all things and act according
to God's least desires. Make me love not only my friends but
my enemies as well in imitation of Jesus Christ who through you
offered himself on the Cross for all people. Holy Spirit, animate,
and guide me, and help me to be always a true follower of Jesus.
Amen.
