In this Gospel Reading, we share with Mary, the Mother, her feeling
a fear when she lost Jesus, for three days, and her feeling of

midst of the teachers listening to them and asking them questions.
New Year's Readings:
Ephesians 2: 11-18 (English & Lebanese)
St. Paul explains that without Christ, without hope and without
God in the world, people lived according to the flesh.
Gospel: John , 7: 19 - 24 (English &

them trying to kill him. He asks them to judge justly and not

Mary, the Mother of God
January 1st
The Christian Year begins with a feast in honor of Mary, the
Mother of God. First among the saints, she is the loving mother
of Jesus and Mother of us all. God chose Mary for a special role
in history. She was to give birth to the Messiah, whom God would
send to save all people from sin and bring joy and peace to the
world. like a new Eve, Mary became the "Mother of all the
living" because her child could bring all generations new
life. The prophets of the Old Testament spoke of her their promise
that a virgin would bear a son whose name is Emmanuel, "God
with us". And St. Paul would describe her role in this way:
"When the fullness of time came, God sent his Son born of
woman
" God prepared Mary with a special care and grace.
Coming to her home at Nazareth, the Angel Gabriel hailed her
as "full of grace, " the beloved of the Holy Spirit.
Even before her birth, God made her holy and free from sin.
Loving Mother of the Redeemer, gate of heaven, star of the sea,
assist your people who have fallen yet strive to rise again.
You who received Gabriel's joyful greeting, have pity on us poor
sinners.
Amen.
