Sunday of the Paralyzed Man March 14th, 2010
أحد االمُخلَّع.
14 آذار سنة 2010

Gospel: Mark 2: 1 – 12

Readings: 1 Timothy 5: 24, 6:5

Today we are before the spectacle of “A paralyzed man carried by four men… they removed the roof above him; and after having dug through it, they let down the mat on which the paralytic lay.” The incident resembles that of a funeral, a spiritual one. Jesus was at home, the humanity home. He lives with us in history under one roof. He is the word. He was teaching the crowd about the Lord’s word.

He gives himself for us. His words testify for his life, that is why he’s honest. “The Son of Man has authority.” He teaches us about his life and he lives by his teachings. It was reported that he was at home. “So many gathered around that there was no longer room for them, not even in front of the door.” They gathered out of curiosity or maybe just to listen to his teachings. Are they true believers?

All humanity drowns when in sin. Jesus is the only Saviour. He came to save us all. Only five men were not among the crowd. Four men carrying a paralyzed man on his death bed. The four men represent the Church in the four sides of the world, which carries the sinners bringing them to Jesus who heals and gives life instead of death given by sin.

St. Joseph, March 19, Husband of Mary (First Century)

St. Joseph, husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus Christ, was a descendant of King David, according to the genealogy presented by the Gospel. Betrothed to Mary, he decided to divorce her quietly when he found out she was with child, but an angel of the Lord told him to take her as his wife, since the child to be born was the “Holy One of God.”

Joseph assisted at the birth of Jesus and became his support and guide through childhood. In a dream he was told by an angel to flee from Bethlehem with the infant and his mother, lest Herod kill the child. He accompanied them to the temple where Jesus was presented to God.

With Mary, he sought the boy Jesus when he was lost on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Joseph, a man of faith, a just man, was a worthy successor to the great patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. A saint close to God, he is honoured as the patron of the universal Church.

Prayer to St. Joseph

I consecrate myself to your honour and give to you, that you may always be my father, my protector and my guide in the way of salvation. obtain for me a greater purity of heart and fervent love of the interior life. After your example may I do all my actions for the greater glory of God, in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. O Blessed Saint Joseph, pray for me, that I may share in the peace and joy of your holy death. Amen.
