Sunday of the Man with Leprosy.
February 21st, 2010
أحد الأبرص.
21 شباط سنة 2010

Gospel: Mark 1: 35 – 45

Readings: Romans 6: 12 – 23

Jesus restored to health the man with leprosy with an act of grace. He became a new man, a clean person free from the punishment of sin that dominated his life in the past. We should reach out and touch the Lord’s merciful hand which took the hand of the leper. By doing so, we will rise from our falls and receive the graces of the Holy Spirit.

We will be completely cured when the sin leaves our dying body without destroying our lives. God and his servant Paul did not forbid us from innocently enjoying the goods and joys of life, instead they encourage us to learn how not to be selfish, instead they and how to stop the hatred. Jesus died, we ought to kill our obsession with sin and our wicked desires.

We can ignore that and live far away from God. St. Paul asks us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God.

We have a choice either righteousness and freedom and live as children of God, or sin, slavery and death. When we do evil, we will be covered with the leprosy of our evil doing and its consequences from weakness, illness to eternal suffering.

Let us all kneel before Jesus. He alone can heal us like he healed the man with leprosy physically and spiritually. He is capable of giving us, once again the innocence of the Baptism.

“If you choose you can make me clean.”

Knights of Columbus News:

-    Our Council thanks the community for the good participation in our 5th Annual Banquet. Our local businesses, both family run and large corporations gave generously to our Haiti Earthquake Relief Fundraising efforts. The largest contribution to our fundraising came from cash donations made by individuals, for which tax receipts will be issued by the Canadian Red Cross. We and more importantly, the poor people of Haiti deeply appreciate all your support.

-    As we stated, 100% of the proceeds from our banquet, including the raffle draws, the silent auction and the donations from individuals of gifts and cash, 100% go to help the poor people of Haiti. It is with great pride and deep satisfaction that I advise our community that because of our joints efforts the people of Haiti will receive $13,010 in total aid. A GREAT, GREAT FIRST STEP. Our council and community should be proud of this achievement.

-    General Meeting: Our next general meeting is scheduled for February 23, 2010 at 7:00PM at the Church Hall.

Prayer of Reconciliation

Gracious God, ruling he earth and its people not by terror but in love; we worship you.

We confess that too often our words hurt others and our deeds are selfish; forgive us.

In this time of uncertainty and fear, help us to love our enemies and do good to those who hate us, in the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.

“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you will return.”
