Fourth Sunday of the Easter Season
الأحد الرابع من زمن القيامة

Gospel: John 21: 1 – 14

Readings: Hebrews 13: 18 – 25

This Sunday reminds us of the apparition of Jesus to seven of his disciples by the Sea of Tiberias.

The miraculous fishing symbolizes the fishing of people at the hand of the disciples. The net is a symbol of the Church which has to gather in the Risen Lord all the people of the earth, to give them the salvation.

Jesus is the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant. He makes us complete in everything good so that we may do God’s will. We are committed through Jesus complete the will of God and to live according to his laws.

The seven disciples did not catch any fish. It seems like the mission of casting the net to fish has been completed and that of fishing people to the salvation has started. Jesus took the initiative in the miraculous fishing.

Today, Jesus is present with us. He is risen. They recognized him from the abundance of the fish and their net that did not tear. The beloved disciple was the first one to recognize him.

By taking the bread and giving it to them in communion, Jesus clearly indicated the Holy Eucharist, through which we meet Jesus, the Risen Lord present with us until the end of days.

Prayer for Vocations

Heavenly Father, call many holy young people to consecrated life for the sake of your kingdom. Call and abundance of virtuous people to serve as labourers for your harvest. Through baptism you have called all your children to love and serve you. Fill us with your Holy Spirit and grant us the grace to follow you in perfect obedience and clarity. With Mary and Joseph as our models and intercessors, we ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
