Sunday of the Righteous and Just February 8th, 2009
أحد الأبرار والصدّيقين

Gospel: Matthew 25: 31 – 46

Readings: Hebrews 12: 18 – 24

This Gospel Reading concludes the teachings of Jesus according to St. Matthew.

Jesus confirms that the least ones are his brothers. He is one of them. This Gospel reading is the conclusion of Jesus’ answer to the disciples’ question about the final judgment.

The final day is the day we recognize the Son of Man instead of meeting him which takes place on earth.

Whoever wants to know the Lord has to serve others with simplicity, love and without any expectations. The Lord incarnate will recognize his own people who live in love.

In at time where people battle and quarrel about the truth concerning God and his divinity, this Gospel comes to return humanity to all human beings. Matthew’s Gospel confirms that human beings are the best to know God.

The judgment makes all humans equal no matter to what religious denomination they belong: “Did you love and serve like you are serving God?”

All humanity is directed to Jesus the Messiah. By loving our brothers we love Jesus. Yes, at the end of our lives we will be judged according to the love we lived.

Our Lady of Lourdes, February 11th

The Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous from a cave near Lourdes, France, in 1858. From February 11 to July 16, the young peasant girl saw “The Lady dressed in white” about eighteen times.

Mary told her to pray for sinners and to have a church built on that spot. When Bernadette asked her who she was, she replied, “I am the Immaculate Conception.”

Today the great shrine of Lourdes is a sacred place where pilgrims gather from al the world for prayer, healing, and a renewal of faith.

Prayer of his All Holiness for World Day of the Sick
February 11th

O Mary, Immaculate Virgin, Woman of suffering and hope, be kind to every suffering person, obtain fullness of life for each one.

Turn your maternal heart especially upon those who are in extreme need, struck down by mortal illness.

Embrace them all, keep them close to your heart. Our Lady of Lourdes, Queen of the whole world, Virgin Most Holy, pray for us. Amen.
