Our
Lady of the Rosary
This feast was established by St. Pius V to commemorate the victory
of the Christian naval fleet, commanded by Don Juan of Austria,
against the Turks at Lepanto in 1571.
Don Juan attributed the great
victory to the intercession of the Blessed Mother. The Rosary was
revealed to St. Dominic by the Blessed Mother about the beginning of
the thirteenth century, and is one of the most beautiful of all
devotions.
As one recent Pope said, "The recitation of the Rosary
helps the individual to meditate on the mysteries of the Lord’s life
as seen through the eyes of her who was closest to the Lord." |
