Sunday of the Visitation to Elizabeth.
أحد زيارة العذؤاء إلى أليصابات

November 30th, 2008

Gospel: Luke 1: 39 – 45

Readings: Ephesians 1: 1 – 14

During this season of announcements, Mary’s visit comes as continuity to the announcement of the angel to her and a confirmation for Elizabeth on her son’s role.

The baby started moving in his mother’s womb by the power of the Holy Spirit to let his mother unveil Mary’s baby secret.

The promises of the Old Covenant won’t only belong to the people of Israel but to all those who will accept the announcement of Jesus.

The meeting between Mary and Elizabeth is different from any other meeting. It is a meeting of glory and thanksgiving to God who gave the barren one the grace of carrying the announcer of the New Covenant and to the Virgin to become the Mother of the Founder of the New Covenant.

Elizabeth did not choose the words to greet Mary just to be gracious or hospitable. It is a true faithful cry of a person surprised by the divine presence, “Blessed is the fruit of your womb.”

Elizabeth felt what was only felt by Mary. She declared her faith in the incarnation of the word even before she was born.

She saw in Mary not only a relative but the Mother of the Lord, “The Mother of my Lord comes to me.”

She congratulated Mary on her belief in the announcement that she accepted.

St. Andrew, Apostle (First Century) November 30th

St. Andrew came from Bethsaida, a town in Galilee on the Lake of Genesareth. He became a disciple of St. John the Baptist, who sent him to see Jesus. After visiting the Lord, Andrew called his brother, Simon Peter, to come and meet the Messiah.

Later, as Jesus was walking along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Peter and Andrew casting their nets into the sea. Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”

Andrew accompanied Jesus throughout his public ministry, and his name appears in the story of the feeding of five thousand in the desert. He was crucified on a X-shaped cross at Patras, Acaia.
