Sunday of the Renewal of the Church.

November 9th, 2008

Gospel: John 10: 22 – 42

Readings: Hebrews 9: 11 – 15

The conversation between Jesus and the Jews evolves around two nicknames: the Messiah and the Son of God. The Jews asked Jesus if he was the Messiah.

They didn’t want to know Jesus’ identity but they were trying to make him admit it and then sentence him. Jesus’ answer wasn’t clear but had a hidden confession about his identity:

“I told you and you don’t believe.” Jesus focuses in his conversation on the nickname “Son of God” using the miracles he performed (healing the paralyzed and the blind and the rising of Lazarus from the dead)

Jesus used the books as references because he knows that the Jews accept the books as proof. He used the Psalm that says:

“I said you are gods.” He called the judges gods because the Lords’ word was given to them by inspiration.

The judges represent God on earth. Jesus could be called the Son of God because he was sent by God into the world. Jesus unveiled his true identity to the Jews who were self-involved in their lack of faith. They are of Jesus’ flock.

Knights of Columbus News:

- At Christmas we honour the birth of Jesus Christ. At times our Saviour is forgotten in the commercialization of the season and the rush to get ready for the holiday festivities. Each year the Knights of Columbus take a leading role in reminding society that Christmas is first and foremost a holy day. This year the Knights of Columbus will be selling Religious theme Christmas Cards following both Masses on Sunday, November 16th, 2008. There is a limited supply, so don’t miss out on this opportunity.

- General Meeting: Tuesday, November 18th, 08 @ 7PM. All members are encouraged to attend.

- Christmas Dinner for our members and their families Tuesday December 2nd, 08 following 6PM Mass.

- Monday Night Volleyball 6:30PM for our K of C members and their wives.

-  A reminder to our community: Our 4th K of C Annual Banquet will be held on January 31st, 2009. Tickets will be available in the very near future.

Remarks:

-          After taking the Holy Bread, please say “Amen” which means “I believe.”

-          When the Priest is burning incense, we should bow or do the Sign of the Cross.

-          For the Mass Celebration, the Cross and the priest should enter the Church after everyone and should be the first to exit the Church at the end of the Mass.

A Prayer of Remembrance

Almighty and eternal God,
from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted,
either by death or life:
hear our prayers and thanksgiving
for all whom we remember this day;
fulfill in them the purpose of your love;
and bring us all, with them, to your eternal joy;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
