The Visitation of Mary, May 31st
Celebrated between the feasts of the Annunciation (March 25) and the
Birth of John the Baptist (June 24), the feast of the Visitation
originated in the Church of the Middle Ages. It recalls Mary’s visit
to her cousin, Elizabeth, after the angel announced that she was to
be the mother of Jesus. Filled with the Holy Spirit, these two women
recognized the power of God at work in their midst. “Blessed are you
among women,” Elizabeth said, “and blessed is the fruit of your
womb.” Mary replied:
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
My soul rejoices in God my Saviour for he has looked with favour on
his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has
done great things for me, and holy is his Name.
Offering to the Sacred Heart
I offer You all my prayers, works, joys and sufferings in union with
the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
For the intentions for which He pleads and offers Himself in the
Holy Sacrifice of the Mass,
In thanksgiving for your favours, in reparation for my sins,
And in humble supplication for my temporal and eternal welfare,
For the needs of our holy mother the Church, for the conversion of
sinners, and for the relief of the poor souls in purgatory. |
