Easter Sunday March 23rd, 2008

Gospel: Mark 16: 1 – 8

Readings: 1 Corinthians 15: 12 – 26

The Resurrection of Jesus is an incident which concludes all the events of our salvation and the liturgical year. The Resurrection is the feast of all feasts. Every liturgical celebration is completed by the presence of Jesus the Risen Lord.

The Christian unity won’t come true unless we live in meekness and forget ourselves and serve others following Jesus’ example, who took a human body, even though he is the image of the Father. He suffered on the Cross and was risen to be glorified by the universe.

The Resurrection is backed by very significant evidences: the empty open tomb, the angel saying “The Lord is not here! He is risen,” the disciples who carried the perfume, the appearances of Jesus to his mother and Mary Magdalene and the other disciples. Jesus is the New Adam.

The salvation of the humanity depends on Him. our hope, faith and resurrection all depend on Him. We ask the Lord to help Lebanon live the Resurrection in peace, love and justice.

The Annunciation, March 25th

One of the “Christmas Feasts” celebrated outside the Christmas Season, the feast of the Annunciation recalls the coming of the Angel Gabriel to Mary at Nazareth to announce that she was to be the mother of Jesus.

The Angel Gabriel was sent from God to a Virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The Virgin’s name was Mary. Upon arriving, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, O highly favored daughter!

The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women.” She was deeply troubled by his words, and wondered what his greeting meant. The angel went on to say to her: “Do not fear, Mary. You have found favour with God.

You shall conceive and bear a son and give him the name of Jesus. Great will be his dignity and he will be called the Son the Most High.” Mary said, “I am the maidservant of the Lord. Let it be done to me as you say.”

With that the angel left her. The feast of the Annunciation is an ancient feast of the Church. Marcy 25, the time of the spring equinox, was seen as a significant day by the early Christians who regarded it as the day the world was created.

Resurrection Prayer

O Lord Jesus Christ, you are the true God. You are the light of the world. You are our Lord and our God. You were nailed to the Cross, and through your pierced side, we have all been healed.

You descended into hades, and shattered its bonds. You raised those who were long dead, granting life to them.

You embittered hades. You were raised from the dead in order to grant salvation to all; to scatter your enemies; and for those who hate you, to fall from before your face.

You were raised in order to raise with yourself the whole world, each and everyone.

Amen.
