Condolences:
Our
deepest sympathies to the Chaldean Church and community for the loss
of Archbishop Boulos Faraj Rahho, the Bishop of the Chaldean
Catholic Church of Mosul who was kidnapped in February 2008 and
found dead this past week. The Funeral Mass was held on Friday,
March 14th, 2008 in Mosul, as thousands of people
gathered to say farewell to their beloved Archbishop. May God rest
his soul in peace and grant consolation to the Chaldean Church and
people.
St.
Joseph, March 19th
St. Joseph, husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus Christ, was a
descendant of King David. Betrothed to Mary, he decided to divorce
her quietly when he found out she was with child, but an angel of
the Lord told him to take her as his wife, since the child to be
born was the “Holy One of God.”
Joseph assisted at the birth of Jesus and became his support and
guide through childhood. In his work as a carpenter he shared the
many hours of his trade with his young son. Joseph, a man of faith,
a just man, was a worthy successor to the great patriarchs. God
entrusted this silent, humble man with the unique privilege of
raising his son as a growing child. A saint close to God, he is
honoured as the patron saint of the family and the Universal Church.
Prayer before a Crucifix
Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus, while before your face I
humbly kneel, and with burning soul I pray and beseech you to fix
deep in my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity, true
contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment.
While I contemplate with great love and tender pity your five
wounds, pondering over them within me, having in mind the words
which David your prophet said of you, my Jesus:
“They pierced my hands and my feet; they numbered all my bones.”
