Epiphany of the Lord

Gospel: Luke 3:15 – 22
Readings: Titus 2:11, 3:7
By celebrating the Epiphany of the Lord today, we enter a new liturgical season.

After the Christmas season, and the celebration of the Lord’s saving birth, we enter today the season of the Epiphany of Jesus by John the Baptist on the Jordan River and the significance of this incident and its effect in our lives.

By his birth Jesus, the Son of God, became the Son of Man. By baptism, we become children of God. John baptized Jesus with water for repentance.

Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire, which sanctifies us. This saving fire is essential for each human being willing to walk the path of Jesus.

God created man similar to him, holy, pure and virtuous. The human path on this earth tainted the human race wit the dirt of the sin. Only Jesus’ baptismal fire could burn off all the dirt and return the human beings to their original state of purity.

The saving fire of Jesus is painful because the sin became a part of our lives and it hurts for it to leave us. We have to understand that we won’t get to the salvation unless our sins are burned off and taken away from our lives.

Blessing Prayer

Bless, O Lord, our home so that in it there may be health, chastity, victorious strength, humility, goodness and mildness, obedience to God’s laws, and acts of thanks to God the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, and may this blessing remain upon this house, and upon all who dwell in it. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
