Sunday of the Man with Leprosy February 10th, 2008

Gospel: Mark 1 :35 – 45
Readings: Romans 6: 12 – 23

Jesus restored to health the man with leprosy with an act of grace. He became a new man, a clean person free from the punishment of sin that dominated his life in the past. What should we do? We should do the same as the leper. We should reach out and touch the Lord’s merciful hand which took the hand of the leper. By doing so, we will rise from our falls and receive the graces of the Holy Spirit.

We will be completely cured when the sin leaves our dying body without destroying our lives. God and his servant Paul did not forbid us from innocently enjoying the goods and joys of life, instead they encourage us to learn how not to be selfish, how to stop the hatred. Jesus died, we ought to kill our obsession with sin and our wicked desires. We can ignore that and live far away from God.

St. Paul asks us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God. We have a choice either righteousness, freedom and live as children of God or sin, slavery and death. When we do evil, we will be covered with the leprosy of our evil doing and its consequences from weakness, illness to eternal suffering.

Let us all kneel before Jesus. He alone can heal us like he healed the man with leprosy physically and spiritually. He is capable of giving us, once again the innocence of the Baptism.

Our Lady of Lourdes, February 11th

The Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous from a cave near Lourdes, France, in 1858. From February 11 to July 16, the young peasant girl saw “The Lady dressed in white” about eighteen times. Mary told her to pray for sinners and to have a church built on that spot. When Bernadette asked her who she was, she replied, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Today the great shrine of Lourdes is a sacred place where pilgrims gather from all the world for prayer, healing, and a renewal of faith.

God of Mercy,

May the prayers of Mary help us to rise above our human weakness.

Prayer for Lent

Dear Lord, we are now in the Holy Season of Lent. We begin to realize anew that these are the days of salvation, these are the acceptable days. We know that we are all sinner. We know that in many things we have all offended your infinite majesty. We know that sin destroys your life in us as a drought withers the leaves. Help us now, Lord, in our feeble attempts to make up for past sin. Bless our efforts with the rich blessing of your graces. Amen.
