Fifteenth Sunday of the Pentecost Season Assumption Feast August 17th , 2008
الأحد الخامس عشر من زمن العنصرة.

Gospel: Luke 1:46 - 55

Readings: Romans 12: 9 - 15

Mary’s Song of praise symbolizes God’s mercy and sympathy. The Virgin Mother said  “The Mighty One” about the Lord who brings salvation.

This also was spoken by the Prophet about Jerusalem: “God is mighty; He grants help to all selflessly, without fearing a human being or a thing.” He is the Holy One and the One above all evil.  He came to earth to lift the humankind to him.

His might appears in two faces: against the arrogant sitting on thrones, and with the humble who know their weakness and wait for God’s mercy; against the rich people who think that they could live without God after their harvest flourished and bore fruits.

This is the Lord whom Mary spoke of and sang his praises, the Lord who takes good care of those who fear Him. God does not forget the sinners.

This is the Lord of mercy. He showed His mercy toward Abraham. God completed his mercy be sending his Son to save His people. God stood beside his humble servant Mary, Lifting her.

For this reason, the earth congratulated her while waiting for the heavens to congratulate her on her glorious assumption in body and soul to be with her divine Son.

Our Lady of Lebanon

Our Lady of Lebanon Auxiliary was established in 1977 with a mission of keeping alive the Lebanese tradition of devotion to Mother Mary, and construct a shrine duplicating that in Harrissa, Lebanon.

With donations made from many communities the ground breaking ceremony for the shrine was possible in May 1981.  In May of 1983, the statue weighing 12 tons and standing 145 feet high arrived accompanied by Italian Sculpture, Rino Grazzi.

The unveiling of the statue and blessing by Bishop Elias Shaheen was held on May 22, 1983.  August 1983 till present, the Volunteers of the Ladies Auxiliary have been keeping alive the tradition to Our Mother Mary with Annual Liturgical Celebration of Prayer and Feasting.

June 1999, Stations of the Cross were built outside the Shrine.  That year, during the Our Lady of Lebanon Festival in August, His Excellency, Mgr. Joseph Khoury blessed the newly constructed Stations of the Cross.

Through the committed work and dedication of the Ladies of Our Lady of Lebanon Auxiliary, the Shrine has been maintained for the past 25 Years.

On behalf of Saint Anthony’s Parish we would like to wish a Happy 25th Anniversary to Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine.

May you Stand Strong Forever

Prayer to Our Lady of the Assumption

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy,

Our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
