Presentation O Mary, November 21st
This feast celebrates the dedication of the Church of St. Mary built
in Jerusalem near the site of the Temple. According to an early
tradition, Mary was born to Sts. Ann and Joachim in Jerusalem, in a
neighborhood close by the temple.
At twelve, she was presented there to learn the law of God. The
resent Church of St. Ann, a favorite place of pilgrimage, marks the
ancient site today.
The Scriptures which spoke of the “Daughter of Zion” singing and
rejoicing in the presence of the Lord, probably suggested to ancient
Christian piety eager to know the details of Mary’s early life which
were portrayed in art by many great medieval artists.
Heavenly Father, you have given us a model of life in the Holy
Family of Nazareth. Help us to make our family a New Nazareth.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, cause of our joy, pray for us. Be always
with us, guide and protect us.
Amen.
