Epiphany of the Lord

Gospel: John 1: 29–34

Readings: Ephesians 2: 11 – 18

John bore witness to Jesus. “Here is the Lamb of God, I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God.” The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.” Based on this testimony, the story of the two disciples who followed Jesus came about. It is the first station of their journey.

It is very important to start from tradition and the inherited faith. The parents, the Church, the friends, the school… they were all like John. They led us to Jesus, the Messiah. Faith comes from listening. Jesus asked them: what are you looking for? They answered: where are you staying? They remained with him that day.

Facing Jesus is the second station of their journey. What is more important is to live an experience with Jesus. Experiencing Jesus does not necessarily mean witnessing a miracle. It is the experience of joy and true salvation by letting Jesus interfere in our lives. One of the two found his brother and said to him, “We have found the Messiah.”

He brought him to Jesus. He entered a direct relationship with Jesus by calling him by his name. The most important station of them all is the importance of not keeping Jesus to ourselves. We must carry the good news to others.

Prayer

We pray, Lord that you be our helper and protector. Deliver those of us in distress; raise up the fallen, turn your face to the needy. Heal the sick, bring back the erring, feed the hungry, and ransom our prisoners.

Help the weak to their feet, comfort the faint-hearted. Let all nations know you are God alone, and Jesus Christ is your Son. Alone with none but thee, my God, I journey on my way: what need I fear, when thou art near. May we come not troubled by fear, not clinging to this world, but drawn to our life in heaven, blessed and everlasting in Jesus Christ. Amen.

                                                                St. Gregory Nazianzem.

Blessing Prayer for a house

Bless, O Lord, Almighty God, our home so that in it there may be health, chastity, victorious strength, humility, goodness and mildness, obedience to God’s laws, and acts of thanks to God the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, and may this blessing remain upon this house, and upon all who dwell in it. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
