Fourth Sunday of the Easter Season

Gospel: John 21: 1 – 14

Readings: Hebrews 13: 18 – 25

This Sunday, Jesus appears to his disciples giving them his Spirit before Pentecost. He encouraged them to avoid the world’s sin, inviting them to be like branches in him because, he, alone is the hope of Resurrection, reconciliation and perfection.

Sending the disciples into the world, is a continuity to God’s gift by sending his only Son as the light and the triumph of the Church which was given the power to forgive sins.

Returning us to the heart of his Church, nourishing it with his body and blood, and sending us into the world proclaiming his teachings through the power of the Holy Spirit.

This is the mission given to us as baptized people to be close to Jesus the Risen Lord who saved us by dying on the Cross.

St. Matthias, Apostle (First Century) May 13

According to the Acts of the Apostles, St. Matthias was chosen to replace Judas Iscariot as one of the twelve apostles after the Resurrection of Jesus. Two men, Barsabbas and Matthias, were proposed, but only one was selected. A companion of Christ during his public ministry, Matthias was among the seventy-two disciples whom Jesus sent out to preach. He was also a witness to Christ’s Resurrection. Tradition says that preached the Gospel in Judea, Cappadocia, and near the Caspian Sea. He suffered martyrdom by crucifixion at Colchis.

Lord God,

Make us disciples of your Son,

Hearers and doers of his word,

Witnesses for him in this world.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.
