The Fourth Sunday of the Pentecost Season

Gospel: Luke 10: 21 – 24

Readings: 1 Corinthians 2: 11 – 16

Jesus invites us in this Sunday’s Gospel to be his disciples and to be like him pure at heart, unlike the Pharisees. He rejoiced in the Spirit and gave thanks to his Father.

The wisdom that came from the Holy Spirit, was designed by God since the beginning, and was realized in time through his Son Jesus for the salvation of those faithful to him. He gave the Spirit to his disciples. He allowed us to share in his wisdom and his knowledge.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus explains the unique relationship between him and the Father. He also talked about the reciprocal relationship between them. Jesus asks us to resemble little children in their innocence. Let us surrender to the Spirit and understand his inspirations.

St. Peter & St. Paul, Apostles, June 29

A feast honoring these two great saints has been celebrated by the Roman Catholic Church since the Third Century. There is sound evidence that both Sts. Peter and Paul preached in the city of Rome and were martyred there under the Emperor Nero about the year 64.

Simon a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee was one of the first whom Jesus called to follow him. Changing his name to Peter, “Rock,” the Lord promised to build his Church on him and gave him power in heaven and on earth.

A natural spokesman for the other disciples, Peter called Jesus “the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Tradition says he died crucified head down, since he considered himself unworthy to die as his Lord had done.

Saul of Tarsus was a zealous Jew, a Pharisee, who after his dramatic conversion on the way to the city of Damascus became a fervent apostle of Jesus.

After imprisonment in Rome, he was beheaded along the Ostian Way where his burial place is still venerated.

Father, through Sts. Peter and Paul your Church first received the faith.

Prayer of Consecration to the Holy Spirit

O Holy Ghost, divine Spirit of light and love, I consecrate to you my intellect, my heart, my will and my whole being for time and for eternity.

May my intellect be ever docile to your heavenly inspirations and to the teaching of the Holy Catholic Church of which you are the infallible guide. May my heart be ever inflamed with the love of God and my neighbor; may my will be ever in conformity with the divine will, and may my whole life be a faithful imitation of the life and virtues of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom, with the Father and you, Holy Spirit, be honor and glory for ever. Amen.
