Sixth Sunday after the Resurrection, Mothers Day

Pentecost Sunday

Gospel:

Acts 2: 1 - 13

Readings:

John 14: 15- 20

This Pentecost Sunday, fifty days after the Resurrection, all secrets from the Resurrection are revealed to us.

We are filled with the Spirit; we see through the eyes of the Risen One's Spirit. It is great to enter a new Pentecost, as the ones saved by the Blood of the Lamb, with the apostles.

Let us welcome on the feat of the coming of the Spirit, like Mother Mary the disciples, God's gifts into our hearts through the Spirit of sanctity, understanding and knowledge, the Spirit that filled the world.

The Church and all nations with God's plentiful graces. Let us welcome into our hearts the bliss of repentance, hope and salvation to become witnesses to the love that never fails. The Christianity, since early ages, was an adventure of love.

Jesus raised the humanity to the generous light of love from the dirt of history and the dust of everyday life, by coming to earth. Jesus gave his wisdom to his disciples whom he chose. When they were weak and doubtful, he sent them the Holy Spirit.

Bless us Lord, as you blessed your Church through the Spirit. Make us carriers of your justice and truth.

St. Nehmetallah Hardini, May 16

Joseph Kassab was born in the year 1808. His father was George Kassab and his mother Mariam Raad. He entered the school of the monks of St. Anthony at Hboub from 1816 to 1822.

He entered the monastery of St. Anthony of Kozhaya and became a novice, November 1828. There he adopted the name of Fr. Nehmetallah Kassab Hardini. There he learned to bind books. He professed his first vow on the 14th of November 1830.

After he finished his theological studies, he was ordained a priest under Bishop Semaan Zouein in the monastery of Kfifan on December 25th, 1833. He became a member of the general council three times from 1845 to 1848, 1850 to 1853.

He taught in monastic schools, especially in kfifan. Father Nehmetallah lived a very holy life. He was a man of prayer, totally "enraptured by God". He spent days and nights in meditation, prayer and adoration of the Eucharist. Mother Mary was his patron. He was a very humble, sensitive and patient person who lived his monastic vows of "obedience, chastity and poverty" to perfection.

His fellow brother monks and the people who knew him called him "The Saint" while he was still alive. One of his students was St. Charbel, 1853 to 1858. St. Nehmetallah died in the monastery of Kfifan on December 14, 1858.

He passed away after struggling ten days with a high fever which he contracted from the cold winter wind, characteristic of northern Lebanon. He was only fifty years of age. He died holding a picture of the Virgin Mary.

His last words were, "O Virgin Mary, between your hands I submit my soul." Some time later, the monks opened St. Hardini's tomb and to their surprise they found his body incorrupt.

He was then removed and placed in a coffin near the Church, then to a little Chapel where masses are celebrated for visitors.

Through his intercession many cures occurred: blind, paralyzed, child raised from the dead, cure of cancer, and cure of nerve system.

He was canonized saint to the whole Catholic Church on May 16, 2004 in Rome by His All Holiness Pope John Paul II.

Prayer to Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Mother of Perpetual Help, you have been blessed and favored by God. You became not only the Mother of the Redeemer, but the Mother of the redeemed as well.

We come to you today as your loving children. Watch over us and take care of us. As you held the Child Jesus in your loving arms, so take us in your arms.

Be a mother ready at every moment to help us. For God who is mighty has done great things for you, and his mercy is from age to age on those who love him. Intercede for us, dear Mother, and obtain for us pardon for our sins, love for Jesus, final perseverance, the grace always to call upon you, Mother of Perpetual Help.

Amen.
