This Sunday, we listen to St. Paul saying
to the Colossians, "You were buried with Jesus in Baptism;
you were also raised with him." God's presence requires
faith not doubt from his disciples of Emmaus.
After Jesus was dead and buried, the disciples
felt like orphans, like sheep without a shepherd. They were dominated
by sadness and disappointment. The left everything and followed
him. Just when they have lost hope, and being behind closed doors,
they see Jesus with them, showing them his hands and feet returning
hope to their aching hearts.
In the Acts of the Apostles, they chose
Matthias to replace Judas the traitor who delivered Jesus to
death. By doing so, the number was complete; the Church became
complete and able to continue the work of Jesus after he was
out of sight and covered by a cloud.
The Church continues Jesus' work through
the Sacraments. Jesus continues to allow us to share in his banquet
of bread, wine and forgiveness. Jesus appeared to his disciples
giving them peace and joy, not fro a special time or age but
forever. The Church will carry his holy wounds bearing witness
to his presence in the world.

St. Matthias, First
Century Apostle (May 14)
According to the Acts of the Apostles,
St. Matthias was chosen to replace Judas Iscariot as one of the
twelve apostles after the Resurrection of Jesus.
Two men, Barsabbas and Matthias, were proposed,
but only one was selected. A companion of Christ during his public
ministry, Matthias was among the seventy-two disciples whom Jesus
sent out to preach.
He was also a witness to Christ's Resurrection.
Tradition says that he preached the Gospel in Jerusalem, Cappadocia,
and near the Caspian Sea. He suffered martyrdom by crucifixion
at Colchis.
Lord God,
Make us disciples of your Son, hearers and doers of his word,
witnesses for him in his world.
Consecration to Mother
Mary
My Queen and my Mother, I give
myself entirely to you; and to show my devotion to you.
I consecrate to you this day, my
ears, my mouth, my eyes, my heart, my whole being without reserve.
Wherefore, Good Mother, as I am your own, keep me, close to you,
as your property and possession.
Amen. |
