Fifth Sunday after the Resurrection

"Hail Mary Full o f Grace!"

Gospel:

Romans 10: 1 - 13

Readings:

Luke 24: 36- 48

We see Jesus today, present in the midst of his apostles and disciples. He greets them with peace. Jesus invites them to feel safe and overcome their fear.

Jesus appears secretly every time the disciples are gathered to remember Jesus' passion, death and Resurrection in the Eucharist. By doing so, the Church becomes strong and able to challenge all persecutions and difficulties.

When we celebrate the Eucharist, do we come to Church full of happiness to receive the good news and transfer it to our society? After his Resurrection, Jesus appeared not in the state of flesh and blood but in the beatified state, keeping the marks of the nails in his hands and feet to indicate that he is not a spirit or a shadow, but it is He himself present in their midst.

We are invited to contemplate our sufferings under the light of our belief in the One risen from the dead. Jesus' Resurrection is ours. It is the source of our salvation and life for all people.

We ought to believe and everything else will follow. Let us remember today all those who consecrated their lives to preaching and those who dedicated their lives to spread the Christian word throughout the world. We also remember those responsible for the politics in the world. May they become lovers of peace, and workers for justice.

St. Joseph the Worker May 1st

On May 1st, 1955, Pope Pius XII addressed the Catholic Association of Italian Workers and declared that this day would be known as the feast day of St.

Joseph the Worker. In the Communist bloc, May 1st is celebrated as May Day, which glorifies the relationship between the worker and the social state.

It is obvious that the church was very concerned with this, and wanted to demonstrate to its faithful that it was equally concerned about the plight of the working man and woman.

Joseph a carpenter, taught his trade to his son, Jesus, and provided for his family. It is especially important to remember this human element when contemplating the lives of both St. Joseph and the Holy Family.

Lord God, maker of all things, you give us skill of mind and body to labor and serve in this world. May we follow the way of St. Joseph who worked with Christ at his side, and may all we do be a sign of your greatness and power.

Prayer for the Virgin Mother

Remember, O Most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins my Mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful; O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
