Sunday of the Hemorrhaging Woman

“Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
(Luke8: 48)

Gospel:

Luke, 8: 40 – 56

Readings:

2 Corinthians, 7: 4 – 11

The illness of the hemorrhaging woman is personal. She suffers from it by herself. It is not obvious to others. She keeps thinking about a solution for her condition, which is known and does not put others at risk.

Jesus’ passage where “they were all waiting for him” was for her a new chance to be healed. She approached him with faith and touched him asking for a healing. The divinity of the Savior protects everyone according to his need, unlike Peter who was taken by the crowd. For this reason, Jesus answered the hemorrhaging woman who asked to be healed in her heart.

Touching is an important factor in the healing. She felt the power that restored her back to health. We have to get close to the Lord to feel his presence. Jesus’ reaction is educational. He wanted to show that faith is the reason for the healing.

Jesus wants us to have a grace from him not to flee far away from him. We ought to have a personal relationship with the Lord. This personal experience should reflect the true love of God toward his children.

Sister Lucia, last of children to see the Lady of Fatima, dies at 97

Lucia de Jesus dos Santos, the last of three children who saw the Virgin of Fatima died on Sunday, February 13th, 2005. Sister Lucia, who later became a nun, was the eldest of the shepherd children, Jacinta and Francisco, who in 1917 told of seeing apparitions of the Virgin Mary six times.

From May to October 1917, the three young Portuguese shepherds witnessed an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On July 13, the Virgin Mother entrusted three to the young visionaries, two of which they were free to reveal, while the third remained unveiled until May of 2000 on the anniversary of the assassination attempt against the Holy Father Pope John Paul II.

The First Secret was a vision of hell: "Our Lady showed us a great sea of fire which seemed to be under the earth. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human forms, like transparent burning embers, all blackened or burnished bronze, floating about in the conflagration.

The demons could be distinguished by their terrifying and repulsive likeness to frightful and unknown animals." The Second Secret included Mary's instructions of how to save souls from hell and reconvert the world to Christianity and the breakout of World War II: "You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world a devotion to my Immaculate Heart.

If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace." The Third Secret was revealed by the Vatican's own interpretation of the vision upon permission of Sister Lucia. During a visit to Portugal for the beatification of the visionaries Francisco and Jacinta (Lucia was still alive), Pope John Paul II announced through his Secretary of State that he believes that the text refers to the failed assassination attempt by Mohamad Ali Acga on May 13, 1981 against him.

He indicated that the Blessed Virgin spared him from death. Sister Lucia wrote in her memoirs revealing the third vision: "After the two parts which I have explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an angel with a flaming sword in his left hand. And we saw a Bishop which is thought to be the Holy Father, dressed in white going up a steep mountain with other religious persons. Having reached the top, the Holy Father on his knees at the foot of the big Cross, was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him. And the same way there died one after another the other religious people."

Prayer for Peace

Blessed are the PEACEMAKERS, for they shall be known as the children of God.

Jesus gave us a way to live in peace: love your enemies, and do good to those who hate you.

Bless those who curse you and pray for those who abuse you.
To those who strike you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from those who take away your cloak, do not withhold your coat as well.
Give to everyone who asks you, and of those who take away your goods, do not ask them again.

And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.

Amen.
