Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

(John 3: 4)

Gospel:

John 3: 31 – 36

Readings:

Romans 8: 7 –116

Many times in St. John’s Gospel, we notice a contradiction between two groups: talking about the heaven and earth, the one coming from heaven bears witness to the truth and the one coming from earth speaks the language of the earth.

The negation here makes us observe indirectly that anyone who put himself in the Spirit coming from above will be inspired by heavens on how to behave on earth.

He lives on earth according to the way of life with God. The one from earth will speak the language of earth. He won’t care about what’s from God.

He consecrates his life for the matters of earth. This is not an invitation to stamp the earth with a negative seal. It means that the earth here is the world of the one who doesn’t care about God. The earth that is in our hands is a blessed gift from God.

Each one of us should rejoice in it and make it grow. St. John explains that living with God should be through his Only Begotten Son Jesus. The Father loves the Son and he gave him the authority over everything. The believer in the Son will inherit the eternal life.

The one who doesn’t believe in the Son won’t see the life. Instead he will see God’s wrath. Let’s give in the Spirit. He will show us how to live the life of heaven here on earth. Our faith will show us how to be God’s children through Jesus Christ.
