Our Lady of the Rosary
This feast was established by St. Pius
V to commemorate the victory of the Christian naval fleet, commanded
by Don Juan of Austria, against the Turks at Lepanto on October
7, 1571.
Don Juan attributed the great victory to
the intercession of the Blessed Mother, which was invoked by
the praying of the Rosary. The Rosary was revealed to St. Dominic
by the Blessed Mother about the beginning of the thirteenth century,
and is one of the most beautiful of all devotions.
The recitation of the Rosary helps the
individual to meditate on the mysteries of the Lord's life as
seen through the eyes of her who was closest to the Lord.
O God, by the life, death and
resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, you filled the world
with joy. Grant, that meditating on the mysteries of the most
Holy Rosary we may imitate what they contain and obtain what
they promise.
