Third Sunday after the Holy Cross Sunday of the Holy Rosary "Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour." (Matthew 24: 44)
Gospel: Matthew, 24: 32 - 44
Readings: Philippians 3: 1, 4:1 Answering the disciples' question concerning the second coming and its time, Jesus gave external signs preceding this coming. About the time, Jesus said truthfully: "No one knows it." Jesus transforms the question of "When is the coming?" to "How do we prepare for this coming?"
He focused on being alert: stay awake because you don't know. The question asked about the second coming means to us more than it does for other people.
The parable of the fig tree teaches us how to read the signs of times. Our experience in reading these signs gives the knowledge that death is inevitable and it's common for all people including us who might be taken by surprise.
This experiment sets us in the motion to be always ready to meet the Lord. The picture of the ark of Noah painted by Jesus invites us to ask two important questions:
What are waiting for?
How do we live this time of waiting?
Do we live our lives in a monotonous constant way?
Do we still believe that our salvation is linked to the Holy Cross of Jesus?

Come celebrate the 87th Anniversary of the Miracle of Fatima on Wednesday, October 13th, 2004 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Candlelight Rosary Procession at 7PM from Paterson Park (2 blocks west of Assumption Church on the corner of Detroit & Sandwich Sts. to Assumption Church. Mass at 7PM. Refreshments will be served after Mass. All are welcome.

Our Lady of the Rosary This feast was established by St. Pius V to commemorate the victory of the Christian naval fleet, commanded by Don Juan of Austria, against the Turks at Lepanto on October 7, 1571.
Don Juan attributed the great victory to the intercession of the Blessed Mother, which was invoked by the praying of the Rosary. The Rosary was revealed to St. Dominic by the Blessed Mother about the beginning of the thirteenth century, and is one of the most beautiful of all devotions.
The recitation of the Rosary helps the individual to meditate on the mysteries of the Lord's life as seen through the eyes of her who was closest to the Lord.
O God, by the life, death and resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, you filled the world with joy. Grant, that meditating on the mysteries of the most Holy Rosary we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise.
