Sunday of the Renewal and Consecration of the Church

“Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
(Matthew 16:18)

Gospel:

Matthew, 16: 13 – 20

Readings:

Hebrews 9: 1 – 12

“Who do people say that I am? Who do you say that I am?” This is a question with double meanings, asked by Jesus who waited for the answer.

Jesus gave Peter the grace because of the right answer he gave. Jesus cared about the people’s opinion in him. But this wasn’t an obstacle for him. This question opens for us new and wide horizons. It is very important to know what people think of us. If it is very important to know what people think of us.

If it is wrong we can fix it. If it is right we have to work on making it better. “Who do YOU say that I am?” Peter’s answer came to him by an inspiration from heaven. Jesus beatified Peter and gave him the keys of kingdom of heaven.

We, as community of faith, are invited to answer that question about Jesus’ identity. If we don’t know the answer, we know that the Church hold the keys of the kingdom of heaven. This kingdom is inside each and everyone of us as said the Lord.

Let us give ourselves to the Church to open your heart and discover the true identity of Jesus. If we declare openly Jesus’ identity, we too, like Peter, can become a rock.

St. Michael, Archangel, November 8

Holy Scripture speaks of angels as ministers of God in human affairs. St. Michael defends the honor of God against Satan. St. Gabriel announced to Mary the coming of Jesus. St. Raphael guided Tobias on his journey and brought healing to Tobit, his blind father.

As servants of God, the angels are instruments of God’s hidden providence. They preserve us from harm, give God’s wisdom and strength to humanity, and accompany us on our journey through life.
We thank you, Lord, with all our hearts; in the presence of your angels we bless you.

Prayer to St. Michael for personal protection

Saint Michael, the Archangel! Glorious Prince, chief and champion of the heavenly hosts, conqueror of the rebel angels!

How beautiful art thou, in thy heaven-made armor. We love thee, dear Prince of Heaven. We yearn to enjoy thy special protection.

Obtain for us from God a share of thy sturdy courage; pray that we may have a strong and tender love for our redeemer and, in every danger of temptation, be invincible against the enemy of our souls.

O standard-bearer of our salvation, be with us in our last moments and when our souls quit this earthly exile, carry them safely to the judgement seat of Christ, and may our Lord and Master bid thee bear us speedily to the kingdom of eternal bliss.

Amen.
