Pentecost Sunday

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. I will not leave you orphans. I am coming to you.” (John 14: 17)

Gospel:

John 14 15 – 20

Readings:

Acts 2: 1-13

This Pentecost Sunday, fifty days after the Resurrection, all secrets from the Resurrection are revealed to us.

We are filled with the Spirit; we see through the eyes of the Risen One’s Spirit. It is great to enter a new Pentecost, as the ones saved by the blood of the Lamb, with the apostles. Let us welcome on the feast of the coming of the Spirit, like Mother Mary and the disciples, God’s gifts into our hearts through the Spirit of sanctity, understanding and knowledge, the Spirit that filled the world, the Church and all nations with God’s plentiful graces.

Let us welcome into our hearts the bliss of repentance, hope, and salvation to become witnesses to the love that never fails. The Christianity, since early ages, was an adventure of love.

Jesus raised the humanity to the generous light of love from the dirt of history and the dust of everyday life, by coming to earth. Jesus gave this mission to his disciples whom he chose. When they were weak and doubtful, he sent them the Holy Spirit. Bless us Lord, as you blessed your Church through the Spirit. Make us carriers of your justice and truth.

The Visitation of Mary, May 31

Celebrated between the feasts of The Annunciation (March 25) and the Birth of John the Baptist (June 24), the feast of the Visitation originated in the Church of the Middle Ages.

It recalls Mary’s visit to her cousin, Elizabeth, after the angel announced that she was to be the Mother of Jesus. Filled with the Holy Spirit, these two great women recognized the power of God at work in their midst. “Blessed are you among women.” Elizabeth said, “and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is His Name.

He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.

Prayer of St. Therese of the Child Jesus

Lord Jesus, I am not an eagle. All I have are the eyes and the heart of one. In spite of my littleness, I dare to gaze at the sun of love, and long to fly toward it.

I want to imitate the eagles, but all I can do is flap my small wings. What shall I do? Whit cheerful confidence I shall stay gazing at the sun, till I die. Nothing will frighten me, neither wind nor rain.

O my beloved sun, I delight in feeling small and helpless in your presence; and my heart is at peace.
