Sunday after Easter

“Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?”

Gospel:

Luke 24:36-45

Readings:

Romans 10:1-13

We see Jesus today, present in the midst of his apostles and disciples. He greets them with peace. Jesus invites them to feel safe and overcome their fear. Jesus appears secretly, every time the disciples are united to remember Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection in the Eucharist.

By doing so, the Church becomes strong and able to challenge all persecutions and difficulties. When we celebrate the Eucharist do we come to Church with happiness to receive the good news and transfer it to our society?

After his Resurrection, Jesus appeared not in the state of flesh and blood but in the beatified state, keeping the marks of nails in his hands and feet to indicate that he is not a spirit or a shadow, but it is He himself present in their midst.

We are invited to read our sufferings under the light of our belief in the One risen from the dead. Jesus’ resurrection is ours.

It is the source of our salvation and life for all people. We ought to believe and everything else will follow: Let us remember in today’s Gospel all those who consecrated their lives to preaching, those who dedicated themselves to spread the Christian word in all nations.

We also remember those responsible for the politics in the world, especially in Lebanon. May they become lovers of peace, and workers for justice.
