Sunday of the Blind Man

“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me. My teacher let me see again.” (Mark, 10: 50)

Gospel:

Mark 10: 46 – 52

Readings:

2 Corinthians, 10: 1 – 7

Healing the blind is one of the signs of the close coming of the Kingdom according to Isaiah. Jesus reminded them of that in the Synagogue in Nazareth, and when He sent to John the Baptist an answer with the disciples.

This miracle is very important and significant in Mark’s Gospel because it comes after the sons of Zebedee, who couldn’t see the Messiah, ask for a special place for themselves in heaven.

On the way to Jerusalem, everyone recognizes his blindness toward Jesus’ secret. They sternly ordered the blind man to be quiet, fearing that his cry would stop or delay their arrival to Jerusalem. Jesus stopped and called him in the same way He calls everyone to walk with him on the path of salvation. Jesus asks them constantly: “What do you want me to do for you?”

For this reason, Jesus tried many times to deliver them from the temptation of victory and authority that control their senses. He guided them to enter in the sacrament of Salvation. Jesus invites us to walk with him.

Prayer to redeem lost time

O my God, source of all mercy, I acknowledge Your sovereign power. While recalling the wasted years that are past, I believe that You, Lord, can in an instant turn this loss to gain.

Miserable as I am, yet I firmly believe that You can do all things. Please restore to me the time lost, giving me Your grace, both now and in the future, that I may appear before You in white garments.

Amen.
"St. Teresa of Avila"
