Sunday of the Hemorrhaging Woman

"Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace." (Luke, 8: 48)

Gospel:

Luke 8: 40 - 56

Readings:

2 Corinthians, 7: 4 - 11

The illness of the hemorrhaging woman is personal. She suffers from it by herself. It is not obvious to others. She keeps thinking about a solution for her condition, which is not known to and does not put others at risk. Jesus' passage where "they were all waiting for him" was for her a new chance to be healed.

She approached him with faith and touched him asking for a healing. The divinity of the Saviour protects every one according to his need, unlike Peter who was taken by the crowd. For this reason Jesus answered the hemorrhaging woman who asked to be healed in her heart.

Touching is an important factor in the healing. She felt the power that restored her back to health. We have to get close to the Lord to feel his presence. Jesus' reaction is educational. He wanted to show that faith is the reason for the healing. Jesus wants us to have faith not use it to be healed.

He expects those who got a grace from him not to flee far away from him. They ought to have a personal relationship with the Lord. This personal experience should reflect the true love of God toward his children.

Complete Trust in God

Do not look forward to the trials and crosses of this life with dread and fear. Rather, look to them with full confidence that, as they arise, God, to Whom you belong, will deliver you from them.

Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow, the same Eternal Father Who cares for you today will take good care of you tomorrow and every day of your life.

"St. Francis de Sales."
