Second Sunday after Epiphany
Gospel: John 8: 12 - 27
Readings: 2 Corinthians 3: 7 - 18 Jesus testified that he is the light of the world. The Jews considered his testimony invalid. Jesus added the Father's testimony on his behalf making the Jews ask him: "Where is your Father?" This was a conclusion of the inspirational testimony of Jesus. He made the Father known through him. Jesus is the light of the world.
The light shows things that disappeared in the darkness. He gives meaning to everything in the world. Do we really believe that this truth could change our lives? In other words, Jesus gives meaning to our lives; he helps us avoid questions like: why was I born? Why do I live? Jesus acknowledged that he doesn't judge the world. He said: even if I judge the world, my judgement would be just. He continues his ruling saying: you will die in your sins if you don't believe that I am the Lord.
This confirmation made the Jews ask him a second time: "Who are you?" This question led Jesus to talk about the Father. The sin of the world is the consequences of the world refusing the light when he came to them. This is the state of the world and not that of the faithful. We may be doubtful at times but we won't be blaspheming.
The basic state of the faithful is to accept Jesus as the light of his faith even though he doesn't preserve that truth. The faithful has to declare his faith in the Holy Trinity until he becomes a light to the world.
