Sunday of Man with Leprosy

"I do choose. Be made clean." (Mark, 1: 44)

Gospel:

Mark 1: 35 - 45

Readings:

Romans 6: 12 - 23

Jesus healed the man with leprosy with an act of grace. He became a new man, a clean person free from the punishment of sin that dominated his life in the past. What should we do?

We should do the same as the leper. We should reach out and touch the Lord's merciful hand which took the hand of the leper. By doing so, we will rise from our falls and receive the graces of the Holy Spirit. We will be completely cured when the sin leaves our dying body without destroying our lives.

God and his servant Paul did not forbid us from enjoying innocently the goods and joys of life, instead they encourage us to learn how not to be selfish, how to stop the hatred. Jesus died, we ought to kill our obsession with sin and our wicked desires. We can ignore that and live far away from God.

St. Paul asks us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God. We have a choice either righteousness, freedom and live as children of God or sin, slavery and death. When we do evil, we will be covered with the leprosy of our evil doing and what consequences come from the weakness, illness and eternal suffering. Let us all kneel before Jesus.

He alone can heal us like he healed the man with leprosy physically and spiritually. He is capable of giving us, once again the innocence of Baptism.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, it seems to me that the crosses I bear are heavier than normal.

Teach me to bear them with courage and nobleness! As you did, I wish I could bear them in order to give strength to those around me, to assume my share in the process of Redemption.

Grant that I accept whatever I cannot change and make me a witness of your infinite goodness to mankind. Amen.
