Sunday of the Faithful Departed
"If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead." (Luke, 16: 31)
Gospel: Luke 16: 19 - 31
Readings: 1 Thessalonians 5: 1 - 11 Today's Gospel describes the life of Lazarus who was a poor man. This Gospel is a proof of God's kept promises, 'Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." This Gospel is an example of God's love for the poor. God chose the poor to share his glory with.
The Gospel does not mention the bad habits of the rich but it mentions that he did not listen to Moses and the prophets. He did not know how to live the present without ignoring the eternal life.
The only sin that the rich man have committed is not sharing his wealth with the poor and the needy. The wealthy man did not abuse or humiliate Lazarus but at the same time, he did not do anything to help ease his pain or hunger. A Christian is not a person who doesn't do evil but someone who does good.
The conclusion of the text is a declaration that the living has "Moses and the prophets". This will confirm the seriousness of the divine inspiration through the scriptures.
People don't have to wait for miracles to believe and repent. The announcement is in our midst. We hear it on our paths of human life. It warns us to love God and our neighbors as ourselves.
As we remember the faithful departed, the Church reminds us through the letter to the Thessalonians that death comes suddenly without a warning. We have to be prepared by hearing the word of God and living by it.

You can choose to take both tours or choose to be a part of just Israel or Just Italy. But the savings to be a part of both is worthwhile. Call Fr. Jim at 519-862-2826 or Sister Barb at 519-944-5474 for more information and to register.
Prayer of St. Francis de SalesGo courageously to do whatever you are called to do. Go simply, go simply. If you have any fears, say to your soul: "The Lord will provide for us." If your weakness troubles us, cast yourselves on God, and trust in him.
The apostles were mostly unlearned fishermen, but God gave them learning enough for the work they had to do. Trust in him, depend on his providence; fear NOTHING. The Lord is with you.
He will protect you from all evil and He will give you the strength to Love as He loves. So FEAR NOTHING.
