Second Sunday after Resurrection Readings: Romans , 6: 1 - 11
Gospel: John, 21: 1-14
In today's spectacle about the miraculous fishing, St. Paul compares in his letter to the Romans, the Gospel's victory and the redemption of humanity to the unity of human kind with Jesus in Baptism where we all kill the sin in our hearts and rise with Christ.
The disciples' adventure has ended today; they all went back to their daily jobs, then came the fishing failure to indicate disappointment and work's barrenness. Jesus' absence and the disciples' ignorance of his presence is a work of death that changes the appearances. For this reason, Jesus gave them a sign by appearing for them standing on the beach giving Peter to be ashamed of being nude, saying: "Stay away from me, Lord because I am a sinner."
When the disciples reached the shore, Jesus asked them to bring the fish they caught and eat with him. They did not ask him because they believed in him. The empty nets abundant with fish represent the Church and the people of God who will be waiting on the shore of our lives to catch us in the net of his love because everything is from Him and for Him. Bless us Lord, You who saved us from the sea of death and life of sin.
