St Anthony's Parish - Sunday June 22nd, 2003

Second Sunday after Pentecost

Gospel: John 14: 21 - 26

Readings: 1 Corinthians 2: 1 - 5

Today's Gospel is a Gospel of love: the Love of God based on living according to God's Commandments, a love taught by the Holy Spirit and all that was said by Jesus when He visited the earth. God is love; love is a continuous fountain of generosity that never dries.

God's love never ends and never dries up. After many temptations, the man fell and there was sin. Jesus came down from heaven to show us the extent to which God's love can reach. We sinned, God sent His Son to save us. He gave us the Holy Spirit to console us. Love cannot be made or bought. It is an unlimited free gift from God.

Whoever loves does not hate or live by "evil for evil". By loving, man becomes, unlike the Pharisees and the high priests, completed in love. Jesus came into the world as a light. Whoever believes in him doesn't live in darkness. Our Messiah is truth and love. God does not categorize us according to our position, wealth, connections, and intelligence but according to our kindness of heart and love.

We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We are the yeast that leavens the dough. Let us love God. This is the first and most important commandment. And the second one is similar. By loving thy neighbor we continue to love God.
