Gospel: John 16: 12 - 15
Readings: 1 Corinthians 14: 1 - 5
Jesus says many things; on the
Cross He said: "Everything is done." He also said:
"I have many things to say to you." How do we understand
these conflicts? Jesus was the completion of all inspiration.
He said everything about the Father. The Holy Spirit will come
to help the faithful understand the inspiration. He takes what
is Jesus' and what is the Lord's and reveals it to the faithful.
The Holy Spirit guides us to
the truth. There are two levels for the truth: the truth as civil
lawful principle and the truth as the inspiration of Jesus who
said about himself: "I am the way, the truth and the life."
In one word, the truth creates in us a balance between faith
and social conduct. Jesus also says that the Spirit tells the
faithful what he hears.
The Spirit is based on Jesus'
inspiration and makes it ready in the life of the faithful. The
Spirit helps the faithful read the future not as clairvoyant
but as a prophet. In another word, the Spirit makes the faithful
a prophet in the true meaning of prophet. During the last supper,
the night Jesus said goodbye to his disciples who were distressed,
but he promised them that their words will be somewhat of his
words.

Our
Lady of Mount Carmel
July 16
The prophet Elijah ascended Mount
Carmel to pray for the heavens to open when the country around
him was dry and without water. Finally he saw a small cloud coming
in from the sea bearing life-giving rain. In the twelfth century,
Christian hermits came to live and pray on this mountain. In
their vision, the cloud was a symbol of Mary, the Mother of God,
who brought life to a parched world. They honored her with the
title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and later founded and order
devoted to prayer under her patronage. |
