Fourth Sunday after Epiphany
Presentation of the Lord at the Temple

Readings: 2, Corinthians,9 :1-15

Gospel: Luke, 2; 22-24 (English & Lebanese)

A large crowd kept following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing for the sick." They followed him because they benefited from him. Once he stops helping them with miracles they will leave him.

When Jesus had accepted to be on trial and to be crucified, all those cured by him, all those fed by him, they all disappeared. That is the problem. We are with God as long as we gain from him (success, healing, help), otherwise, we become against him. In today's Gospel we hear "When Jesus realized that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain by himself."

He went away to pray and meditate. He wants to teach us that his kingdom is not from this world and that he is the Lord's Messiah. They want him to be a political leader who will provide for them freedom, security and prosperity. They want him to return the throne to Israel. Jesus' throne is spiritual. He came to free us from sins, to give us peace and love, even his Gospel's words bring us to life, unite us and sanctify us. The miracles of the loaves remind us to trust in God's love with all our heart.

Presentation of Jesus
February 2nd

Forty days after his birth, Jesus was presented in the temple by Mary and Joseph to fulfill Jewish law. There Jesus was recognized by Simeon and Anna, who were waiting for the coming Messiah. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform for him the customary ritual of the law, he took him in his arms and blessed God in these world. "Now Master, you can dismiss your servant in peace; you have fulfilled your word. For my eyes have witnessed your saving deed displayed for all the people to see: A revealing light to the Gentiles, the glory of your people Israel." This feast, celebrated by the Christian Churches of East and West at an early date, has also been called "Candlemas Day" because candles are blessed and lighted this day on which Simeon called Jesus "A light to the Gentiles".
Christ your Son became man for us and was presented in the temple.
