Readings: Romans 12:9-21
Gospel: Matthew, 25:31-46 (English & Lebanese):
St. Matthew concludes Jesus'
life as a teacher in this Gospel Reading used by the Church to
conclude the Liturgical Year. It is the best learning tool on
how to prepare to meet the Lord upon his second coming and the
final judgment. This scene is not a parable; it is in fact a
prophetic event. Jesus invites us through this event to be ready
to answer the final question of the final judgment: "Did
you really love me?"
St. John of the Cross notices
that we will be only judged by love, which is general and is
deeds. We also stop on the face of the Son of Man who is subject
in this Gospel. He is the glorified one, surrounded by angels,
the King, the Judge, the Shepherd, the Son, and the Incarnate
in all cases of the human kind especially the hardest one: Hungry,
thirsty, naked, stranger, sick, prisoner. what shocks us is the
discovery that the subject becomes suddenly the object. He is
not only all the least ones, he is instead the center of waiting
for mercy.
He accepted willingly to live
humbly. We too are asked to live like Him. This Gospel reading,
in accordance with the epistle, explains, the new ascendant life
with Jesus. The faithful is more aware day after day, until he
reaches through life and its matters, the Kingdom and the matters
of the Spirit. We ask about the true identity of love today.
We ask the Lord to strengthen our hearts to live according to
his commandment of love in all cases and with everyone if we
can as mentioned by St. Paul.

All Saints
This feast which has its beginnings
in the Christian Churches of the fifth and sixth centuries celebrates
all those saints, canonized or not, who enjoy the happiness of
the Kingdom of heaven. Our relatives and friends, multitudes
unknown, "Which no one can number from all tribes and peoples
and tongues," stand before God's throne in joyful praise.
They are remembered this day. God's amazing grace has brought
them home. And we are united to them. The ancient creeds proclaimed
a communion of saints, a bond between the Church on earth and
those below to follow in their steps; their prayers rise up for
us. They remind us of the joy that awaits us and our call to
join them as children in our Father's house. "Now that they
are welcomed in their own country and at home with the Lord,
through him, with and in him, they intercede unceasingly with
the Father in our behalf. Their care is the greatest help to
our weakness. (Pope Paul VI).
For all the saints who from
their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed,
thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest! Alleluia, Alleluia.
All Souls
November 2nd
The early Christians, like their
pagan ancestors, remembered their dead on certain days of the
year. The present date for our yearly commemoration of the dead
was established in the tenth century. We remember the dead with
prayers so that God will "Strengthen our hope that all our
departed brothers and sisters will share in Christ's resurrection.
In the words of Vatican Council II, "fully conscious of
the mystical body of Jesus Christ, the Church on earth honors
with great respect the memory of the dead, because it is a holy
and wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be freed
from their sins, she offers her suffrages for them.
Lord God, Maker of all, Master
of life and death, guard and gift of our souls, receive those
who go before us on the pilgrimage of death; in due time receive
us too when our days are done. May we come, not troubled by fear,
not clinging to this world, not turning from your welcome, but
drawn to our life in heaven, blessed and everlasting in Jesus
Christ, our Lord.
