Fourth Sunday After the Holy Cross

Readings:1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

Gospel: Matthew, 24:45-51 (English & Lebanese)

The master left his house asking his servant to take care of those in his household. The servant waited and served. When the arrival of his master was delayed, the servant forgot that his job is to serve others. He also forgot his master, declaring himself master and he started beating up his friends. This parable is an invitation to all the Christians to stay faithful and strong in their service of the Lord, even if they waited long for his arrival. What caused this transformation in the servant's heart and pushed him to forget his master? It is the long hard waiting. Have you ever noticed someone very ill waiting for death to save him? Or someone who waited so long for something he asked the Lord for? It transforms people into unending suffering. To wait so long is to ask about life's real meaning and about the truth of the Lord's existence and mercy.

Our Lady of the Rosary
October 7th

This Feast was established by St. Pius V to commemorate the victory of the Christian naval fleet, commanded by Don Juan of Austria, against the Turks at Lepanto on October 7, 1571. Don Juan attributed the great victory to the intercession of the Blessed Mother, which was invoked by the praying of the Rosary. The Rosary was revealed to St. Dominic by the Blessed Mother about the beginning of the thirteenth Century, and is one of the most beautiful of all devotions. The Rosary, a summary of the Christian faith, has always enabled Christians to approach Jesus with Mary who "kept all these things in mind, treasuring them in her heart." As one recent Pope has said. "The recitation of the Rosary helps the individual to meditate on the mysteries of the Lord's life as seen through the eyes of her who was closest to the Lord." (Pope Paul V).

O God, by the life, death, and resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, you filled the world with joy. Grant, that meditation on the mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise through Christ Our Lord.
