SECOND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
Readings: 1 Corinthians 2:1-5

Gospel: John 14:21-26 (English & Lebanese):

Today's Gospel is the Gospel of God's love, which is based on living according to the Covenants. This love, taught by the Holy Spirit reminds us of Jesus' words when he visited the earth. God is love, and love is giving continuously. It is always new and never empty. By this love, God created us; he did not need any other creation. After many temptations and tests, the man fell and there was sin.

Jesus came down from heaven to show us the Father's extreme love for us. We sinned, so God sent his only begotten Son to save us. He gave us the Holy Spirit. Love is not made or bought; it is a free gift from God's mercy.

Whoever loves does not hate, he does not ignore God and the neighbor, he does not apply the law of eye for an eye and evil for evil. He responds to evil with good. The loving person has, unlike the Pharisees, a complete love like the Lord's love who adopted us and like Jesus' love who did not live for himself but for others.

God's sun rises on the evil and the righteous. God's rain falls on the evil and the righteous. When we clothe someone, we clothe God, when we feed the hungry, we feed him, when we shelter the homeless it is God we are sheltering, when we visit the sick or the prisoner it is him we are visiting, when we help the less fortunate we are helping God. Jesus came as the light of the World.

Whoever believes in him does not live in darkness. Jesus is truth and love. We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We are the yeast that leavens the dough. Let us love God. This is the firs and biggest commandment.
