NINTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Readings: 2 Thessalonians 2:13-107
Gospel: Matthew 12:24-32 (English & Lebanese)
When we look into the history of our world and its present state, we feel sadness and anxiety, especially these days where everyone knows all that is happening on this earth such as crimes, disasters, grief, and unfairness to the poor and weak.
The worst part is that the man who practiced his criminal act against his fellow man is still going on with his barbaric deeds. It seems like this won't change in the near future. In a world such as ours, it looks like a simple thing to preach about the heavenly kingdom, life with Christ and to speak about the Spirit of God in mankind and in the world.
Indeed, religion was accused of being the opium of people. The faithful has to work on feeding the hungry and defend peace and justice before proclaiming the kingdom of God. Today, after understanding the greatness of the task we are asked to complete, we cannot lose hope in the possibility of doing anything in this scary world.
Today, on St. Charbel's feast we ask ourselves who was this saint who refused to see his mother? Is he an undutiful son? Is he a man who knows what he wants? Is he a man who does not consider other people's feelings? Is he a man with no feelings? Did he leave the world because out of fear? St. Charbel asks us many questions today. Do we know how to liberate ourselves from everything because of our faith and beliefs? Aren't we all invited to this kind of heroism and sanctity?

Sts. Joachim & Ann
July 26Ancient Christian tradition records the names of Sts. Joachim and Ann as the parents of Mary, the mother of Jesus. They were both members of the tribe of Judah of the house of David. According to tradition, Joachim and Ann came to Jerusalem from Galilee.
Over the centuries, they have been honored, especially in the East, at all the great Churches and shrines built in memory of them. Historically and biblically, not much is known of Joachim and Ann, except that they are the parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus.
By their fruits we know how people lived, Jesus taught. The Church recognizes the grandparents of Jesus as models of family virtue and faith, which they transmitted to their offspring.
O good St. Ann,
Mother of Mary, Grandmother of Jesus, intercede before God for our families and their children. May one generation hand on to another faith in God's promise and trust that he will do great things for those who reverence his name.
