Readings: 2 Corinthians 6:3-10
Gospel: Matthew 12:14-21 (English & Lebanese):
The Pharisees went out and conspired against him. Meanwhile
Jesus left there and healed all the sick people ordering them
not to make him known. This new law of Jesus contrasts the law
of "eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," a reaction
with a reaction. Jesus faces the refusal with healing and mercy.
He benefits from the opportunity to help others. Jesus is
recreating the universe with his new law by "departing"
like the oceans create the earth by departing. Jesus teaches
us the art of dealing with the hardship and negativity of this
world by being like him when he was persecuted by the Pharisees
who refused the grace of the Lord. Jesus faces but with a new
language filled with mercy and love for his creation.
He doesn't talk to them the same language they talk: refusal
and hostility. He has mercy on everyone directly. He gave the
Pharisees indirectly the grace and the chance to see the prophecy
being realized in front of their doubting eyes. We are asked
to bring forth the mission of Jesus to all mankind without letting
the circumstances overtake us. Let us be apostles at all times.
When we received the Holy Spirit we got invited to be apostles
to all mankind carrying the hope to the broken and depressed
hearts.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel
July 16
The Prophet Elijah ascended Mount Carmel to pray for the heavens
to open when the country around him was dry and without water.
Finally, he saw a small cloud coming in from the sea bearing
life-giving rain. In the twelfth century, Christian hermits came
to live and pray on this mountain. In their vision, the cloud
was a symbol of Mary, the Mother of God, who brought life to
a parched world. They honored her under the title of Our Lady
of Mount Carmel and later founded an order devoted to prayer
under her patronage.
Most beautiful Mother of God,
Splendor of heaven, You bring fruitfulness to the earth and assist
us in our needs.
Star of the sea, show yourself a mother to me.
Let the healing rain of your comfort fall gently upon me.
Hear my voice when I call. Mother of God, I place my cause in
your hands. Amen. |
