SEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Readings: 2 Corinthians 3:12-18
Gospel: Matthew 10:16-20 (English & Lebanese):
This Gospel reading is chosen during the Pentecost Season, in accordance with the Maronite Rite. Those who received the Spirit understand the Teacher's commandment and realize it. This Gospel reading is from a scene between the Teacher and his disciples. Matthew started it with an invitation to the apostles calling them by names, sending them on their mission, and providing them with the commandments. Matthew also mentioned what could face them on their journey: persecution, hatred, and spite. The apostles are asked to stay alert, bear witness without caring about what they will say. They will have to escape from city to another to complete their mission. The world will response with handing them over and dragging them to courts, killing and hating them. The Teacher warns his disciples about what they will face along the way. He doesn't hide from them the war's art according to his new law. What Jesus is asking of them is being wise as serpents and innocent as doves. By doing so, we reach the salvation.
Jesus asks us all to be like him to become another Christ. The disciple is honored to be like the Teacher. The servant is honored to be like his Master. The Spirit works in us making us capable of pleasing the Lord, so we could love as He loves, forgive as He forgives, realize His will on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

Prayer
We pray, Lord, that you be our helper and protector.
Deliver those of us in distress; rise up the fallen.
Turn your face to the needy.Heal the sick, bring back the erring, feed the hungry, ransom our prisoners, help the weak to their feet, comfort the faint-hearted.
Let all nations know you are God alone, and Jesus Christ is your Son.
Show them that we too are your people and the sheep of your flock."Epistle to the Corinthians."
