THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
Readings: Titus, 2:11, 3-7

Gospel: Luke, 3: 15-22 (English & Lebanese)

Today, we renew our faith on the feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. He was manifested in the River Jordan in the Holy Trinity and the fire that we received because he gave us life with his birth.

We see St. Paul today, focusing on the Lord's Passion for our salvation. He gave us the Spirit where we became heirs of the Kingdom. Even if we drowned or fell in this world's murky water we don't stay in it. Whoever sleeps on the floor, will never fall from the bed.

Today's feast is the feast of salvation, the feast of New Life that reached the glory by the Birth, Passion, and Resurrection of Jesus. This is the feast of the Church, where no celebration compares to that of Eucharist which is the Sacrament of Christ with the Father and the Spirit, The Church invites us today to be happy for the Baptism of the Lord is our repentance with John and Christ who is with us.

The Baptism of the Spirit realized the dream. Our Christ is not alone on earth; he is accompanied by the Spirit and backed by the Father, and present in the Human history in a sensible way. Let our answer to the Father today, be similar to Jesus' answer who said when on the Cross: "Father, in your hand I put my soul" This way God will appear in our lives; by accepting Jesus as our brother, we will be reborn in the Spirit and walk the way of Saints. We will bring the Good News, the light of the world and true witness to those who hunger for God.

Epiphany of the Lord
January

The word Epiphany is from Greek word meaning 'appearance or manifestation.' Until the 4th century, the Church celebrated three principal feasts: Epiphany, Easter, and Pentecost.

In the Eastern Church, Epiphany commemorated three events: The Birth of Jesus, his Baptism and the wedding at Cana. However, from 376 , the Western Church has reserved December 25 for the celebration of his birth, while at Epiphany, the emphasis is on the visit of the Magi, which represents God's self-revelation to non-Jewish nations.

The expectation of Isaiah, that foreign nations would be drawn to the spiritual light of Jerusalem, is fulfilled when travelers from the East arrive at the court of King Herod seeking "the child who has been born king of the Jews." The foreign visitors are called "wise men." They have journeyed a great distance to seek the newborn king. In contrast, Herod, who lives only a few miles down the road from Bethlehem, has to consult the chief priests and scribes to find out what is happening in his own territory.

A popular axiom says: "Wise men and women will seek him." Today we no longer need to travel far to find Jesus: he is present among us. Receive him with joy.
Praise
O wondrous and eternal light,
Immortal Son of splendor bright,
O fountain of God's love and grace,
True brightness of the Father's face.
O Word of God in human flesh,
Our victory over sin and death,
God's holy love revealed in time,
In our adoption most sublime.
Now as the sun gives birth to day
The deeds of darkness flee away;
The earth declares your praise,
O Lord and sings anew in one accord.
To you, O Son, all glory be,
For this your great Epiphany,
Whom with the Father
We adore with Spirit blest forevermore.
