- Readings: Romans 6:1-21
-
- Gospel: John, 21: 1-14 (English & Lebanese):
For the third time after his resurrection,
Jesus appeared to his disciples, illuminating their hearts so
they could see the truth and fight sin by living with Jesus Christ.
The abundance of fish is a symbol of Christ's mission, who came
to catch people in the net of salvation.
-
- The Church is inspired by this theory to strengthen its mission,
which is the Body of Christ. By the resurrection, we were reborn
into a new covenant. We examined God's doing in the midst of
the apostles. As we suffered with Christ, we will be glorified
by the glory of his resurrection. Peter failed the day he denied
Jesus, but he went back to lead the ship of Christianity confirming
the priority of guiding God's people.
-
- Fishing is the symbol of the Eucharist that provides the
passage from the body of death to the body of life. Let us ask
Jesus, the risen Lord to satisfy our hunger from the bread of
his love. May he guide our country Lebanon to the social and
political justice, so we could live in peace and harmony, where
freedom reigns providing a good living for all generations.

St. Mark
First Century, Evangelist
- St. Mark, author of the second Gospel, was a member of the
early Christian Community at Jerusalem. St. Paul and St. Barnabas,
his cousin, took him on their first missionary journey. When
they reached Cyprus, however, Mark left them to return to Jerusalem,
perhaps because he missed home.
-
- This caused Paul to question for a while Mark's reliability
as a missionary, and the incident brought about a disagreement
between himself and Barnabas. Later, Mark became Paul's trusted
companion at Rome, during one of Paul's imprisonments. He was
also an associate of Peter.
-
- One tradition relates that Mark became Bishop of Alexandria
in Egypt. Around the ninth century, his relics were brought to
Venice where they rest in the great Cathedral of San Marco. Mark
is depicted in are as a winged lion, probably suggested by the
description in his Gospel of John the Baptist as "a voice
crying in the desert." It is believed that he wrote his
Gospel between 60 and 70 A. D.
