Sunday of the Announcement to Zechariah Readings: Romans 4:13-25,
Gospel: Luke, 1:1-25 (English & Lebanese):
The Angel Gabriel appeared to Zechariah during a Liturgical feast in the temple. He announced a miraculous birth of John, which will be similar to what happened to Isaac born from Sarah to Abraham, the day he had lost hope. After appearing to Abraham by the oaks of the Mamre, and eating at his table, God said to him: "I will surely return to you in due season, and your wife Sarah shall have a son." Sarah was listening at the tent entrance behind him.
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, "After I have grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?" The Lord said "Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?
At the set time I will return to you, in due season and Sarah shall have a son." This is the time of "Life," the time that carries the rain and blessings, the time when Abraham, Sarah, Zechariah, and Elizabeth lost hope in having a child. When the Book tells about a late birth of one of the children, this indicates that this child has a special mission from heaven.
