Sunday of the Birth of John the Baptist Readings: Galatians, 4:21: 5, 5:1,
Gospel: Luke, 1:57-66 (English & Lebanese)
The birth of John the Baptist is a confirmation that the announcements are starting to be realized. God is doing as He promised because He is merciful and loving. He wants mankind to be free from all slaveries so the man could testify for Him and reach the truth. Many times we are caught in the middle of old traditions. In order to be free from them, we need a woman. Elizabeth changed a tradition when she insisted that her son be named John, and so did Zechariah. She doesn't want to be only remembered by God, she wants to transform the issues into reality. She transformed us from the remembrance to love and mercy. God doesn't only remember us, He has mercy on us, He loves us. The birth of John the Baptist teaches us, specially the epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians: "We too are children of the promise." The Gospel of St. Luke invites us to open our mouths and to begin to speak and praise the Lord.

Prayer for the faithful departed Immortal God, Holy Lord, Father, and protector of all You have created, we raise our hearts to You for those who have passed out of this mortal life. In Your loving mercy, Father of all, be pleased to receive them in Your heavenly company, and forgive the failings and faults they may have done from human frailty. Your only Son, Christ, our Saviour, suffered so cruelly that He might deliver them from the second death. By His merits may they share in the glory of His victory over sin and death. For all the faithful who have died we pray. May the merits and prayers of our Virgin Mother, Mary, and those of all the Angels and Saints, speak for us and assist them now. This we ask in Christ's name.
Amen.
Immaculate Conception
December 8The Solemn Feast of Mary's Immaculate Conception, celebrated nine months before the feast of her birth (September 8), recalls the Christian belief that Mary was preserved free from all stain of original sin from the moment of Her conception by her mother, Anne. Because of her unique role as the Holy Mother of Jesus Christ, God endowed her with special graces and gifts. Like a new Eve, she brought new life to the world through her Divine Son. The feast is also a reminder that the whole Church shares in Mary's privileges in some way. For this reason the feast day prayers asks God to "trace in our actions the lines of her love, in our hearts her readiness of faith." With firm belief in Mary's intercession, the Bishops of the United States confided their new nation to her care under the title of her Immaculate Conception.
Mary Immaculate, star of the morning, chosen before the creation began, chosen to bring, for thy bridal adorning, woe to the serpent and rescue to man. Bend from thy throne at the voice of our crying, bend to this earth which thy footsteps have trod; stretch our your arms to us, living and dying, Mary Immaculate, Mother of God.
