Sunday of the Visitation to Elizabeth

Readings: Ephesians, 1:1-14,

Gospel: Luke, 1:39-45 (English & Lebanese):

In today's Gospel, we see two women: One visiting and another receiving the visit. If we take Mary's face, after receiving the greeting from the angle, went to Elizabeth to share it with her. Elizabeth knew that the one Mary has conceived is her "Lord" because Mary was transparent in her greeting, which was a continuity to that of the angel. Mary's face is an invitation for all of us who received the greeting and the Holy Spirit through the Baptism. It is our turn to carry this peaceful greeting in our meetings and visits.

We are invited to be transparent in our words and our deeds so others can see whom we carry. Elizabeth's face guides us on how to accept the peace and faith brought to us by others and how should we respect the one who carried Jesus to us. The most important face of the visitation is the meeting between Jesus and John; the meeting of the Old and New Covenant. With Eve the human relations change: Cain killed his brother Abel. Jacob bought Esau's Birthright to cancel his role. With Mary, humanity changes radically: the Son dies for others; John disappears to let the Savior appear. This is the New Covenant.

Prayer to the Divine Mercy for the Faithful Departed

Most Merciful Father, we commend our departed into your hands. We are filled with the sure hope that our departed will rise again on the last day with all who have died in Christ. We thank you for all the good things you have given during our departed earthly life.

O Father, in your great mercy, accept our prayer that the gates of Paradise may be opened for your servants. In our turn, may we too be comforted by the words of faith until we greet Christ in glory and are united with you and our departed. Amen.
