September 30, 2001 THIRD SUNDAY AFTER THE HOLY CROSS Readings: 3 Philippians , 17:4-1
Gospel: Matthew, 24: 32-44 (English & Lebanese)
This is the third Sunday after the Holy Cross. Our main focus is the Day of the Lord. We listen to Jesus warning us in the Gospel of Matthew: "Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come." St. Paul explains in his letter to the Ephesians: "Wait for our Lord, beloved, our Savior, who will change our lowly body." We hear the readings for this week about the coming of the Lord as a surprise.
We should also know that every day of our life is the Day of the Lord. Do we know how to transform each day of our lives into the Day of the Lord, so we could live with the Lord, being certain that he is strong and he is among us and living in us. For this reason, we should be alert and wait for his coming.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, I am not an eagle.
All I have are the eyes and the heart of one.
In spite of my littleness, I dare to gaze
At the sun of love,
And long to fly toward it.
I want to imitate the eagles,
But all I can do is flap my small wings.
What shall I do?
With cheerful confidence I shall stay
Gazing at the sun, till I die.
Nothing will frighten me, neither wind nor rain.
O my beloved sun, I delight in feeling small
And helpless in your presence; and my heart is at peace.
